I am so lucky to have the greatest customers!  One wonderful customer of mine, Sue, had purchased a piece of pottery from me, entered my raffle to win my giant gift basket, complimented me on all my stuff, had a wonderful & cheerful conversation, and then vanished.  But not for long.

A few days later, I told myself that I really must pull the winner’s name out of my raffle container.  I pulled the name, Sue, and immediately emailed her.  I was so excited and surprised when I figured out that it was the very same Sue that was so delightful to meet, talk with, and sell pottery to!  A little time went by as we all are busy, but Sue has now posted a lovely little write up with gorgeous photos of how much she loves my handmade skincare and pottery!   Without further ado, here is Sue’s lovely post from www.sunnyhawklane.blogspot.com :

“I’m on a winning spree.  Truly winning, not winning in some sarcastic-Charlie-Sheenish way.  At my last craft show (I make jewelry and sell at craft shows….my jewelry site —which needs alot of attention— is here:  http://www.sunnyhawklane.com/ in case you are curious), I didn’t win the raffle (I usually do, it’s so weird), and went home thinking, ah, well, can’t win EVERYtime.  A few days later I get an e-mail telling me I have won this wonderful gift basket from a crafter I met that I went ga-ga over….Karen makes VEGAN hand-cream AND awesome pottery.  I bought this wonderful bowl from her:

So, I thought it was amazingly cool that I won these items:

See more of her lovelies here:  http://www.craftybynaturestudio.com/  (Note:  she uses beeswax in some of her products, so some are not strictly vegan….check ingredient list).

I love her stuff so much that I am going to order some things from her to give away here, on the blog, in July, to celebrate my one-year vegan anniversary.  More on that in June.”

I did it!  I made real “Lotion-Lotion!”  I am totally thrilled and jumping up and down with sheer joy and excitement!  Making a body lotion has prooved to be an elusive goal for me!  It has taken a lot of trial and error to get to this point in Crafty by Nature history!

What I was doing wrong previously was my use of beeswax, oils, and water to try to make a lotion work.  Oh no, don’t even bother using beeswax!  What you must use instead is a different kind of wax altogether known as ‘vegetable emulsifying wax.’  The emulsifying wax is the key!  It is so amazing of a difference in the cohesion of my lotion.  With the beeswax, my lotion clumped up and separated into two gooshy parts, one was watery and thin and the other was thick, goopy, and greasy.  Not cool!  BUT NOW I have turned a huge corner and gave it one more try.  The result is a very uniform, very creamy, very moisturizing, and very sensuous lotion.  I absolutely love this lotion.  I actually made the lotion, watched it emusify and perfectly, smoothly blend together, and then I literally said out loud, “I love you, Lotion!”  And so it happened, and the name of the lotion remains, “I love you, Lotion!”  I am so proud and excited, and I really love my lotion!

"I love you, Lotion"

Karen Buoncristiano has a full-time job mapping natural gas lines for Columbia Gas. After concocting a hand cream to use as gifts and basking in the recipients’ praise of it, she started her second job – being CEO (Crafty Executive Officer) of Crafty By Nature.

She sells handmade pottery and body butters, but the most popular item is that hand cream, now dubbed Working Hands Skin Repair. Its combination of natural ingredients like aloe vera, beeswax, comfrey leaf and various oils has healed customers’ ailments such as paper cuts and psoriasis sores.

I am super thrilled to say I finally made it to the next clay level in my ceramics class!  Here I am, on my birthday weekend, proudly holding up my new mid-range STONEWARE clay!

Go mid-range stoneware!!!!  Yee haw!!!

NEXT CLAY LEVEL!!! YAY!

I had the wonderful opportunity of assisting 15 girl scouts to earn their Ceramics and Clay Badges!  All of the girls did great and they all were practically  mesmerized by the clay and had so much fun!  It was a great experience all around!

All of the girls were concentrating on their work but  having fun at the same time.  It was a great class!

Pinch pots were created, then lids for pinch pots, then bases or handles from coils for pinchpots, and then texturizing tiles, and finally glazing with colors some already bisque fired tile pendants!

I’ve made it through my first craft show!  Now I realize there is a lot of demand for my Working Hands Skin Repair cream as well as our handmade pottery.  I am currently infusing more oils with comfrey herb to be put into future Working Hands Skin Repairs and Body Butters too.  I also need to get busy with making more pottery!  Lots of people showed interest in our pottery and/or purchased a bunch of our pottery.  Now we have to make a lot more!!!  I have heard a lot of people asking about plant pots and saucers as well as the usual interest in mugs and bowls.  So tonight I want to try to throw a plant pot or two on the potter’s wheel.   I am also gearing up for a Clay Class I am hosting for the Girl Scouts to get their Ceramics and Clay Badge!  I have lots to do to prepare, so that when the class gathers (on December 12th) I will be all prepared and ready to roll!  I am excited and I am hopeful to do even more classes after this one!  Private lessons have been going well too.  If you know anyone who wants to try their hand at the potter’s wheel, just email me or call me at craftybynaturestudio@gmail.com or 614-557-6369.

Looking forward to more classes, lessons, and pottery fun on the potter’s wheel!

I’m just keepin’ it crafty!

Gotta make more pottery and bath & body now!!!
